Is the ocean carbon sink sinking?

This article discusses the difficulties in using models to predict what the oceans are really all about with respect to CO2 and calcium carbonate, and why the southern ocean seems to be saturated and emitting CO2 back into the atmosphere. A huge amount of non-measurement calculation has been done, which may or may not reflect the totality or intricacy of what is really happening with our oceans, particularly vis a vis the ocean circulation and deep sequestration of atmospheric carbon.

The following article gives us a glimpse , from climate scientists , of just how complex this whole process is

Also, try google searching the following question: or putting it into www.scirus.com

‘How much net CO2 do photosynthesizing plants and algae absorb per annum?’
The results are more than frustrating…..how many plants and and how much algae exist on our earth, how is this changing with time near 2008 or 2009, how has it been changing, what is the average uptake per plant , per kg of algae, we need remote sensing to answer these questions, and the satellite that might have answered this didn’t make it all the way up into its proper intended orbit…..

Cutting Red Tape and Getting Infrastructure Projects Up and Running: PM Announces Evergreen Rapid Transit Line

Please Check Against Delivery

Thank you James for that kind introduction.

Your hard work and determination played a large role in today’s announcement.

So thank you.

Greetings also to Premier Campbell,

Minister Falcon,

The CEO of Translink, Tom Prendergast,

The President and CEO of BC Rapid Transit Company, Doug Kelsey,

And to my Parliamentary colleagues Alice Wong, Randy Kamp, and Senator Martin.

As we all know too well, the world is struggling with the worst economic crisis in generations.

And while we in Canada are faring better than many countries, we are far from immune to the economic difficulties that are sweeping the globe.

At the same time, here is a saying going around: “A crisis is terrible thing to waste.”

For Canada, this crisis does represent an extraordinary opportunity to invest in today’s needs and, in the process, to prepare our country for renewed growth and greater prosperity when the recovery comes, as it inevitably will.

Last month, I met with Premier Campbell and the other First Ministers so that we would coordinate our efforts across all levels of government to stimulate our economy today by investing in the future.

Consensus on one issue was very clear: We all want to put Canadians to work now building the bridges, roads, and public transit facilities needed to generate long-term economic growth tomorrow.

Our national Economic Action Plan does just that.

From coast to coast to coast, we’re working with provinces and territories to cut red tape and get projects up and running.

Here in the Lower Mainland we’re moving forward on several ambitious infrastructure initiatives.

As our gateway to India, China, and the rest of the Asia-Pacific, British Columbia has a unique role to play in building the Canada of the future.

That’s why it’s so imperative that we continue to build the infrastructure needed to speed the flow of people and goods through the Lower Mainland.

Today I’m pleased to announce in partnership with Premier Campbell, the Government of British Columbia, and Translink, a major new public transit project that will help move this region and this country forward.

We will build the Evergreen Line.

Connecting Burnaby to Coquitlam via Port Moody, this project will create thousands of well-paying construction jobs, ease congestion, and accommodate future growth in the Lower Mainland.

Premier Campbell will share with you additional details, but I want to make it clear that today’s announcement isn’t simply about a new rapid transit link or the jobs it will create, it is also about where we’re heading as a country.

As the world struggles with the effects of the global recession, we as Canadians are looking ahead.

We are using our strong balance sheets to aggressively fund initiatives during this recession – in communities all across this country – that will generate wealth in the years to come.

I would like to again thank Premier Campbell for his leadership in partnering with us on this and other important projects to achieve real results not just for British Columbians, but for all of Canada.

By looking forward today and investing in key infrastructure like public transit, we are seizing the opportunities that will help get us through tough times, and ensure this country emerges stronger than ever.

Thank you.

I’d now like to invite Premier Campbell to the podium to give us more details about today’s announcement.

PM discusses government’s anti-crime agenda with police and victims’ advocates

Law-abiding Canadians deserve additional legal protections from increasingly violent organized crime operations, Prime Minister Stephen Harper told a roundtable of anti-gang violence and victims’ advocates and law enforcement professionals today.

“All Canadians have been shocked by the increasingly brazen shootings and other acts of violence that we see on the streets of Vancouver and other cities,” said the Prime Minister.  “All levels of government must work together to ensure that law enforcement and prosecutors have the tools they need to catch and convict the criminals behind this violence.”

Following the meeting with local police and concerned advocates, the Prime Minister called for Parliament to ensure quick passage of  the Act to Amend the Criminal Code (organized crime and protection of justice system participants) introduced by the Attorney General today in the House of Commons.  If passed by parliament, this new legislation will:

  • Make murders connected to organized crime activity automatically first-degree. First-degree murder is subject to a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without eligibility for parole for 25 years;
  • Create a new offence to address drive-by and other reckless shootings with a mandatory minimum sentence of four years and escalating penalties if the offence was committed for a criminal organization or with a prohibited or restricted firearm such as a hand gun;
  • Create two new offences for assault with a weapon or causing bodily harm and aggravated assault against a peace or public officer.  This would be punishable by a maximum penalty of 10 and 14 years, respectively.

“I am calling on all MPs who are serious about fighting violent crime to quickly pass this legislation so that the people of Vancouver, and all Canadians, have the protection they deserve,” said the Prime Minister.  “Our message for these violent gangsters is clear: We will hold you accountable for your crimes.”

An Intro to participation in the GPC

Well,

Last night I took the step of becoming a Party Member. Though I was only able to donate 50 bio-survival tickets (due to the vast sum of my current earnings going towards a shelter fund), it feels good to be on the ‘inside’ of what I feel to be a vital cell in this nation’s greatest untapped resource – grassroots, self-organizing organic intellectualism and political activism.

I hope to be able to contribute both on-line and, as time-space unfolds, more and more in intersubjective, live-action organizing.

If you are within the Capital region of Alberta, I invite you to contact myself so as to cooperate in shared interests and endeavours.

Looking within the construct of an emergent response,
