A Sikh man wearing a turban and a Canadian hockey sweater said it best. We were talking about the Russia-Canada men’s hockey game at a postgame party in Richmond, B.C., and he said, “I knew we had the players. What I didn’t know was that we had the team.”

It was another great night for Canada. I watched the men’s hockey semi-final at the Langley Events Centre, with a beer in hand, and surrounded by a community’s worth of very excited fans.

A few hours after Zsuzsanna and I touched down in Vancouver, Clara Hughes captured Canada’s 12th medal of the Games, finishing off her legendary Olympic career with an extraordinary exclamation point.

On Sunday night, Zsuzsanna and I were back at the Pacific Coliseum, this time for pairs figure skating. Canada’s pairs – Anabelle Langlois and Cody Hay, and Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison – skated beautifully.
