So David Alward takes it comfortably, 2,269 votes to 1,760. “It wasn’t quite as close as I thought it would be,” said the vanquished Robert MacLeod, “but I congratulate David and I’ll be there to work with him and move the party ahead as usual.”

The convention is just getting underway. I did a quick spin through the hospitality suites last night, and while there was still no sign of rancour between the camps, there was an edginess that comes with the fact that it’s finally time for party members to cast their ballots.
